Hello Beagles-rrrrrrr-us!

We adopted Rusty in the beginning of the year and when he got here he was very timid and shyly affectionate. Week by week he's gotten sweeter and more affectionate and outgoing. Now he bounces around the house and wags on his walks. He loves greeting us and following us around and is a great help everywhere. At first he didn't play very much but now he loves playing with
his stuffed bear and bobo. He is no trouble at all, never gets into trouble and he waits in the other room for us to finish dinner. His favorite pastimes include taking naps in the sunshine, rolling in the grass in the backyard, and playing with his cousin Toby. (Another beagle) Now his tail never stops wagging.

You should let people know that even if the beagle they meet at the rescue is very quiet or shy if they bring them home and give them love, they'll
gain confidence and become a bit more outgoing. Rusty is still kinda shy, but he's very much become a member of our family. We love our Rusty very much. :)

Included is a picture of Rusty in his natural habitat.

Thanks for Rusty!

Annie is doing great, except during thunderstorms and when we take her to
the groomer for a bath.  She has settled in nicely.  She is so good, she
just follows us from room to room sleeping, and my youngest uses her as a
step stool to get onto the couch at times.  My girls get her outside every
day and she is finally learning to play.  You can see the excitement on her
face in the attached pictures.   I will get some better ones to send soon.

thanks,
Colleen

Auntie Liz,
Sprite's worst problem is not having a Lazy chair to fit her lengthwise.... she has claimed this chair...and growls when anyone dares to sit in it....

Also, she is well-known in this neighborhood. The mail lady is her best daily friend. She either hands a treat to her...or leaves one in the mailbox...

Sprite has managed to depart her legal premises 21 times, always to either return to our tandem cries, or by some friendly neighbor on a block away from us....

Do we get to keep her if we buy a wider chair?

Hi.  Nice hearing from you. Cabbie is one special lady!  Just ask Liz.  She's been through a lot since I adopted her in October. She had a breast cancer surgery in January.  ACL surgery in July.  She's cost me a small fortune let's just say, but she's worth every penny.  She actually smiles....some dogs can't...Cabbie sure can.  She's my lil lady.  Liz gets pictures and updates of Cabbie all the time.  I'll attach a few so you can get to know Cabbie as well.  Everyone who meets her falls in love.

Hi to Liz, Bill, and all my friends at Beagles R Us!

Since my Mom and Dad adopted me from the rescue I have gotten to do so many new things with them and some, which Mom doesn’t like to talk about, by myself. My first and favorite thing I get to do is sleep in bed with my Mom and Dad. They bought me this really nice bed from the store and I occasionally sleep in it when they aren’t looking. My feline brother Brutus uses it and I am just fine with that. I have met so much new family that loves me very much. I have lots of kids to go on walks and visit and my grandparents let me come to their house in Toledo and visit my Dalmatian friend Johnson. I also have been to my other grandparents place at Lake Erie and have proven the Beagle kind wrong, as I really do not care to get my paws wet in the water.

I have just begun to go to doggy school at YABTC and am doing very well. I might be the best in the class. While all the other dogs bark I just lie by my Dad and listen to the trainer. I have perfected my sit and am working on people jumping. One of my favorite hobbies, but my Mom said not all people enjoy it so I should just save it for her and Dad. If I pass Obedience 1, I get to go on and train to be a therapy dog. I really would like to do this. I have met older people and enjoy their company. They like to sit and relax all the time just like me.

Other then that I am enjoying my life here in Girard. In the upcoming months my Mom and Dad say I will be watching a lot of Buckeye Football and, if I can work on not doing things by myself (by the way I mean talking a walk by myself,) I can go and visit my friends Jersey, Lola, and Bastian in Columbus. Lots of big hugs, because I remember she likes them so much, to Liz and a shake to Bill. They are the reason I am so happy now!  Love Rusty

Hi Ms. Liz.

Bella (aka Daisy) here. It's been a whole month since I've joined my new family and thought I would let you know how I am doing.

I am doing wonderful!

I have to admit that when I left there and came to my new home I was kinda scared. I didn't know what to expect. I missed you and all of my friends I made at the shelter, and I didn't know about Baley, the other dog that lives in the house. He acted like I didn't exist at first.

But over time I have come to realize that this is a very loving home and it's really best for me to be with a family. My new Mommy and Daddy and my boy Jesse and girl Liz are all so sweet to me. The best part is Baley and I have grown very close. We consider each other brother and sister. We do everything together...take walks, patrol the back yard, we eat at the same time, nap together. It's great to have another dog that is just like me. I've even discovered that Smokey who used to be at the shelter with me lives right across the street! I get to play with him every once in a while too. I am surrounded by friends.

So all in all, I am very happy to be part of a family now. I know that this is where I will be for the rest of my years and I know that they will be good years. I'll never forget you and maybe some day I will come back to visit.

 Love,

Bella

Hi Mama Liz,

I'm sorry it has been so long since you've heard from me - I've been busy, busy, busy.  We've had lots of company.  Uncle Chris and Uncle Scott from Massachusetts came for a visit over Memorial Day week-end.  They brought us the greatest toys -  a  big red lobster that squeaks and a big turtle.  I just love to chew on them and play tug-of-war with my dog Birdie.  Oh yeah, I have my very own dog here!  I'll tell you more about her later.  Mom and Dad's neighbor's from Chicago had four boys.  The oldest (Jon) graduated from Purdue last year and they say he's a rocket scientist.  Anyway, he was here for two nights in June because he had an interview on Friday the 13th at NASA.  His next younger brother (Cary) had an interview in Baltimore on the very same day.  Well guess what - they both got jobs!!  Their mom (Debbie) and the boys were here for the night on July 7th on their way to Baltimore and then Debbie and Jon were here for two nights later in the week on their way home from Baltimore.  Then, just last week-end  they were all here (except for Cary) to move Jon in with us.  They even brought their dog, Duke, with them.  He was really, really big and took all my toys.  I would try to get them from him, but I couldn't even reach his mouth.  He was very nice to me and my dog, Birdie.  He is a rescue dog too, so we all had a lot in common.  He is a giant black lab and I ran back and forth under his tummy.  I didn't even have to duck to get under him!

Now, more about Birdie.  She is my best friend, although sometimes I'm not so sure I'm her best friend.   She plays with me a lot and when I want to play and she doesn't, I pull her tail.  That gets her going every time.  I even pulled her across the kitchen floor backwards once.  She was just sitting there being good and her tail was sticking out - I just couldn't resist.  She was not very happy about that.  A lady came to our house and put flags all over the yard.  She was very nice and after she did that, she played with me in the yard.  We would walk up to the flags, I would hear a beeping sound and then she would pull me back into the middle of the yard.  Mom and Dad did that with me too for several days after she left.  I got so I didn't even go near the flags because I knew I would be pulled back into the middle of the yard.  I figured why bother walking all the way to the flags.  Well one day, Mom went past a flag and I was still in the yard with Dad.  I wanted to be where Mom was, so off I went.  Something bit my neck and I yelped and ran back into the yard.  That's happened to me a couple more times and I've determined that it only happens when I go too close to the flags, so I just don't go near them any more.  The flags are disappearing, however, I still hear beeping when I go to certain parts of the yard.  I just run back towards the house and everything seems to be o.k. Birdie and I run all over the yard and hunt, hunt, hunt.  Well, I follow Birdie while she hunts.  She catches voles, moles and chipmunks.  I think the whole hunting thing is disgusting and I really don't participate much.  Birdie did chase a vole out of the plants once and she didn't see where it went.  Well, it came right towards me and it scared me so much that I barked and it turned around and ran right back to Birdie.  That was the end of that vole.

I like to play fetch with a tennis ball, although sometimes I don't like to give the ball back.  It is fun when people chase me around the yard to get my ball.  Mom and Dad say I'm a good eater and I almost always go potty outside and not in the house.  I have accidents once-in-awhile when I'm too busy to ask to go outside.  I don't have to stay in my crate any more when Mom and Dad are gone.  Birdie and I just lounge on the couch together.  Now, my toys stay in my crate.  That's another game I like to play.  Mom and Dad put all my toys in my crate and I pull them all back out.  Birdie and I each have a bed in Mom and Dad's room to sleep on at night.  As soon as it gets light outside, Birdie and I jump onto Mom and Dad's bed.  We get to cuddle for a little while before it's time to get up.  That is one of my favorite parts of the day.  Mom takes us on a walk every morning and Dad takes us on a walk at night.  We have lots of friends in the neighborhood.  All the kids like to pet us and there are many dogs to sniff and bark at.  One neighbor even bought us some biscuits, so I really like to stop at her house.

My leg is doing very well and I don't limp much at all.  I still go down stairs on three legs.  For some reason, it just seems faster.  I like to lie on the floor on my tummy with my hind legs stretched out behind me.  For a long time, I couldn't sit like Birdie.  My leg just didn't want to bend that way.  When I could sit, I sat all the time.  I would be doing something and then I would just sit.  It was wonderful.  Birdie and I are going on vacation next month.  Mom says we are going to the Meadow Run dog boarding and training facility.  Birdie has been there before and says it is a nice place.  As long as I'm with Birdie, I'll be happy.  Mom says that Aunt Elizabeth from Massachusetts will be at our house for a week when we get home from Meadow Run.  I'm looking forward to that - another person to pet me and play with me.

I hope you and the other beagles are doing well.  When are you going to visit me?  I would really like to see you and show you everything I've learned.  You were a really good mama to me and I want to stay in touch.  I'm attaching a couple of pictures so you don't forget what I look like.  I've grown some since you've seen me.  I'm not much taller, but I've filled out some.  Everyone thinks I'm cute.  Mom keeps telling me not to let it go to my head.  I have no idea what that means, but I hear it all the time.  Anyway, please come and see me and pet all my buddies for me.  I miss you!

Roxy (a.k.a. Hurley Day)

We have had Snoopy with us for about 5 weeks.  He has adapted very well to our lifestyle and is very friendly around our grandchildren and their parent’s dogs.

He had an irritation on his tail, but it is on the mend after several visits to the vet.  Our vet was impressed with how calm I was able to keep him as she did some exploration of the irritation.  I didn’t take any credit as I think he is a well mannered pet.  Otherwise, he is in very good health.

We take walks, appx. 1.5 to 2 miles, at least 4 times a week.  He walks pretty well on lead and is a pleasure to walk with.  I think that we both look forward to these walks.

I probably shouldn’t brag on him, but he has not had any accidents in the house.  His social manners are very good around both other pets and people.  He has been around several cats and, essentially, ignores them.

Several weekends back, he took his first swim in our pool.  He was skittish at first, but after several minutes, he relaxed and paddled around for about 5 minutes before I lifted him out.  After several minutes of shaking, he settled down on the deck for a nap, in the sun, of course.

The one thing that has surprised me is that he is not a great eater.  I feed him morning and evening, a cup each time.  He frequently does not finish all of his cup of dog food.  However, there is always room for people food.  He doesn’t get much of that.  He likes bananas and cheese.  He isn’t losing any weight and his isn’t gaining either.  He seems to have a good energy level.

I believe that it goes without saying that I am very pleased with this adoption and am looking forward to many years of companionship with Snoopy.

Thanks for your interest,

 Dexter

I Got A Home!

Hi Aunty No-Rulz,

This is Smokey here. I just wanted to send you a thank you note for taking care of me for two years until my new family came along.

I was so afraid the first couple of days when I went home with them. Remember I went under your stairs in your back yard to get away from them, but my new dad & Bill climbed under there to get me out. They were both pretty dirty afterwards but they didn’t seem to mind.

They seemed very nice but everything was so different. I kept hiding in the closet, behind the couch and they would have to pick me up and carry me on our walks every time there was a loud noise or someone would walk by. They would try to coax me with treats but I didn’t want any. I would come every time they would love on the other dog that lives here named Bonnie. I wanted in on some of that petting too.

After a couple of days I started to feel a little less scared. My new mom and dad are always hugging me, petting me and putting their lips on my head. I’m not sure I understand why they do that but it seems to make them happy so I let them. They also always refer to me as “The Boy”, “My Boy”, and “Our Boy”. They call me Smokey but when they are telling someone about me, they always say “That’s my boy”.

We are always going somewhere fun. We’ve gone to a place called Fitzgeralds sports bar where we meet a lot of different dogs, eat great food and listen to music. Bonnie & I got our pictures taken and you can see us on their website.

We go to Mingle W/Mutts where I get to visit some of my old friends from your place, we go hiking in the woods, walk in the lake, and we take an evening walk every night. My favorite time is the evening walks. Everyday instead of being left home alone all day we go to a doggy daycare called Noah’s Bark. I’ve even made a few friends.

Since I’ve left your place I’ve gotten a girlfriend. Her name is Bonnie, Mom & Dad call her my sissy, but she is really my girlfriend. We run & play together and love on each other. We will lay in the back yard and she will allow me to lay my head on her stomach. When I’m feeling scared she will come up to me and rub her head against mine. She is always saying lets play. Sometimes I have to tell her no because she would play all day if I let her. We look out for each other all of the time. We always know where each other is.

The best part is at night when we all climb in bed together. I sleep between mom & dad up against one of their chest. I’ll lay my head either on their pillow or on their neck. Sometimes I’ll sleep down at the bottom of the bed with Bonnie and we will cuddle together.

I just want you to know that I do miss you and that you will always have a special place in my heart. I hope to see you soon

Hugs & Kisses

Bentley
Hope evrything is going well. It has been a while since you have heard anything about Bentley. He is doing great. He is getting a little more  vocal at times, but not very much :>) Loves to play when he feels like it. He will let the others know when he is not in the mood. He is just one fanatstic little Beagle. We are very glad he is part of the family!!!!
Here is a picture of him and his brothers.

Ellie Lee
Ellie is doing well. We had a scare in September when she got out of her collar and ran away for 27 hours. I posted signs and everything. A guy close by in the neightborhood found her digging in his garden. So now she is all microchipped and wears a harness. She spent the holidays with my family while I was out of town so she got used to being without me. Otherwise she is spoiled and sleeping.
Tanner

Tanner is doing great, except for the Fourth of July when he gets terrified of fireworks. We've had him since November 20, 2005 and he has been great. We love him to death and don't know what we would do without him. He still loves carrots and bananas, but he's not a big fan of tomatoes. He's very healthy and he seems pretty happy most of the time, unless there are fireworks popping outside.

Thank you for connecting us with such a wonderful dog.

Lucy

I just wanted to drop in and let you know how things are going for me in my new home...And to send you some recent pictures. Mom is forever snapping pictures!

My mom and dad are nice, and I think I like them a lot. They seem to make a big fuss over me, and tell me how cute and sweet I am…I have two sisters who I get along with fairly well. I like my youngest sister, I think they call her Annabell, a little better than the other resident beagle, Michaela...

I guess mom and dad say I have to lose some weight, so they have put me on a diet. I don't like that much, but I have already lost a few pounds, and am getting back my girlish figure…

I take lots of walks, and a LOT of naps. A couple of times, I have taken it upon myself to go on grand adventures…Much to mom and dads frustration, I have run off three times! Its not that I don't love it here, its just that there are so many places yet to be seen! Fortunately, mom always finds me and brings me home, and then I am in the proverbial dog house for a few days...

I went to something called a "Dog Park" a few days ago...Wasn't quite sure what to do, so I kind of just stood around...There were a bunch of dogs there?!?! Who knew?!?!?

Mom and dad do a good job of letting me celebrate my Louisiana heritage. I celebrated Mardi Gras in fine style! They even call me the "Cajun Beag" from time to time...

Thanks so much for giving me a safe place to live for a few years…I am glad that I have a safe, warm, home to call my own, where no matter how mischievous I am, they still seem to love me… Love- Lucy Marie Craley AKA "PEA POD"
